Hello everyone!

My name is Allison, I am currently a 6th-grade math teacher in Dallas, Texas. I graduated in the summer of 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the best-kept secret in Texas, Tarleton State University. While I was

there I was part of Phi Mu Fraternity where I focused on giving my time to raising money and volunteering at Cooks Children's Hospital in Fort Worth. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher in some capacity, from the time I was a swim instructor up until I was teaching pre-school and when I began teaching last spring I knew I was doing exactly what I was meant to do.

In my free time, whenever I find any, you will usually see me reading a book or maybe doing something more grandma like even though I'm only 23. I love to listen to true crime podcasts while I'm rows deep in a new crochet project or pricking my finger as I quilt a new blanket. Recently, I have read through two different series of books, "A Court of Thorns and Roses" and "From Blood and Ash" as well as binged the new Netflix series "Bridgerton" (if you know then you know and we can be best friends). During my two-week vacation from teaching, I picked out a wedding venue and spent a lot of time with my two hyper doggos which definitely helped me re-charge.

Now that I am back at school and working my way back into my regular routine it has hit me like a ton of bricks again why I chose to begin pursuing this master's degree. The resulting virtual education mess from Covid-19 has made it clear to everyone I would assume, but to me especially how important it is to get ahead of digital innovations. The majority of teachers in my school were nowhere near prepared to be moved online last spring and even though it was a shock to me

as well I feel like I was able to find my footing quite easily because of my knowledge of technology. If I can help to prevent another issue like this for my school and other teachers in the future that would be my main goal. I would be interested to learn about how to implement this kind of change in my own school, I have helped people get set-up and fix small problems, but I wouldn't even know where to begin to make these types of changes on such a grand scale.

Anyhow, I look forward to learning all that I can from this experience. So, may the force be with you and happy new year!

The Act of Contribution

Throughout the last 8 weeks and my continued journey in the Digital Learning and Leading program I have had to ask myself more than once...
