The process of making this portfolio has spoken to the true nature of authentic learning. This journey began as just another project being completed for a grade, or in this case credit towards a diploma, but as I went along it has changed into a true learning experience where I have been able to not only learn more about myself and what matters to me, but I have been able to learn about the benefits of the authentic learning process.

Through what Dr. Harpnuick refers to as COVA (choice, ownership, and voice through authentic learning experiences) I have been able to find my own voice and take ownership of my learning in this program rather than just completing busy work that has no real impact on me or my future. The Digital Learning and Leading program, specifically this course, have impacted my view on education and the way in which I view learning and experience learning within and outside of the classroom.

An e-portfolio may have once been viewed as just a digital version of its paper counterpart, but its become quite clear to me that an e-portfolio is so much more than this. E-portfolios have the potential to completely change the way we assess student learning and how we track their progress through a given course. This version of the portfolio will also allow for greater ownership of learning, a heightened sense of voice, and greater reflection of ones learning and life experiences. This experience has truly opened my eyes to the opportunities e-portfolios bring to those who are willing to give them a chance. There may be some concerns in regard to the ownership of e-portfolios and the information posted within them. However, this is a problem currently being navigated by those using e-portfolios it has not stopped the growing innovation.

The greatest benefit to the use of an e-portfolio is the ownership which you gain as you go through the creation process and even as you update and maintain your site. Just as my e-portfolio is growing and becoming more and more a reflection of myself, everyone else's is also growing to be more a reflection of them. This is the beauty of a digital portfolio where there can always be constant change and growth just as the owner grows and changes. This may be the end of this course in the DLL program, but this is only just the beginning of my journey with my e-portfolio.

The Act of Contribution

Throughout the last 8 weeks and my continued journey in the Digital Learning and Leading program I have had to ask myself more than once...
