The Power Of Yet

The power of "yet", the power of the growth mindset vs. the fixed. This idea that we are stuck by whatever level we preside at now results in a lack of engagement and we become more likely to give up or to not even try at all. Opposingly there is the idea that we failed, we didn't succeed, yet. The idea of yet allows us to look to the future and encourages multiple attempts. How many of us throughout our lives have tried something, for instance cooking something new, and had to order takeout instead because the result of our new recipe was completely inedible. In this example of trying a new recipe a person with a fixed mindset would throw that meal and recipe in the bin and move on to something different, but a person with a growth mindset would analyze the process of cooking the meal, find the mistakes, and try again and again until it came out correctly. With the power of yet, we give ourselves the opportunity to grow and climb a ladder to success rather than try to make the climb in just one leap.
To me, the formation of a growth mindset allows for more opportunities, it gives you the chance to analyze your attempts and use feedback from others to propel yourself forward. The use of this feedback in the process of multiple attempts provides you with multiple viewpoints and may even speed up the process of reaching success. The focus here may at first look to be on the success portion of the process, but should upon closer inspection be on the actual process of reaching such success. Through the use of a growth mindset, we are making it easier to focus on each rung of the ladder rather than just where the ladder will take us.

As for my own journey to improve on my mindset and the way I approach and climb my ladders to success I plan to continue and finish Carol Dweck's book along with doing more research on my own in regards to the information presented in Alfie Khon's post, " The 'Mindset' Mindset".
