Before I began this program I always thought that portfolios or e-portfolios were meant more as a tool to help land a job, similar to a resume or a cover letter. I never made the connection that portfolios could be used to aid in the learning process, it just never occurred to me.
However, as it has become quite clear an e-portfolio can be a wonderful tool to use to showcase ideas, projects, and opinions on different topics. As you grow in your own learning your e-portfolio grows with you. This seemingly simple things becomes a lifelong project in which you are constantly changing and evolving to fit your needs.
When I was in elementary school I remember being more excited about show and tell day than about my birthday. Show and tell was a time where I got to share my ideas and the things I was passionate about with the people I spent the majority of my time with, in this time I could receive praise and feedback and share what I loved. This same can be said now when I find a project I am excited about I can't wait to tell everyone who will give me the time of day. The great thing is that through the use of an e-portfolio I am able to do this all of the time. I can share my ideas and my projects to like minded individuals who can provide feedback without ever seeing me in person, this tool provides for almost instantaneous changes and alterations so you never have to wait.
Overall, e-portfolios are a place where we can store ideas, projects, and share our own voice with the world.
