My COVA Experience

I have been in the DLL program for just about 3 months now, looking back at those three months it seems impossible how much I have learned about myself, my practices, and those around me.
This program has shown me that there is a way to fix the system that has been infuriating me since I began teaching. Using COVA, giving students choice, ownership, and voice through authentic experiences is the way to transform the world of education. My experience while living and breathing this method of learning has been one of true learning. This program has shown me that learning doesn't need to be reading a book and then taking a test, but can rather be a series of experiences that are interrelated and connected to my previous experiences and new ones.
When you look at my e-portfolio you can clearly see this method in practice, My e-portfolio shows my choices in how it was created and presented to the world, it shows how I take ownership of my learning through my reflections and connections between projects and blogs, it shows my voice in my blogs and my opinions on all things, and finally, it shows the authentic experiences I have participated in and learned from.
This process and development of my e-portfolio will not end with this program though. I can see my e-portfolio changing into a more math and technology-focused site beyond this program. My blog may transform to talk more about technology innovations such as the Google Classroom updates, or perhaps it will discuss different methods in teaching math to students, or maybe even something completely different.
I believe this is one of the most important lessons I have learned thus far, that you don't have to know everything before beginning, that "yet" is a superpower. I may not know where this program will take me yet, but I will find my way and I will be better for it.
